Link Seller Linking To You? Google Says You Won’t Benefit From It.

Matt Cutts, Google’s head of spam search, posted on what happens if a site is selling links to your website.

Simply speaking, Matt Cutts makes clear that sites that sell backlinks and Google is aware about it, Google won’t pass value
from that link seller web site. So if a site that sells links is linking to you, it probably won’t hurt you. Matt said
that the link won't benefit you and probably won't harm you.

Matt discussed:

  1. Web sites that sell links will find their toolbar PageRank reduced by 30, 40 or 50%.

  2. The site will not continue to be able to successfully pass PageRank.C

  3. Sites they link to will not gain from those links.

Does that mean purchasing links from link sellers will not result in a penalty? Not necessarily.
